Logging Operation Completed
Fall 2014

Several VIC trails were temporarily closed during August and September 2014 due to Forest Management Operations between the Gravel Road, the Keese Mill Road, and Black Pond.  The trails affected included:

The logging operation has come to a successful conclusion.  The log landing has been cleaned up and expanded. Several new trails have been laid out; and many of the lesser quality trees left from previous jobs have been cleaned out of the woods and turned into lumber, wood pellets, or fuel for electricity.

However, hikers should be aware that the logging operation left a maze of skidder trails and open spaces out in the cut.  The Woods and Waters Trail from the gravel road to the Little Black Pond lean-to has been flagged with white and blue dotted survey ribbon.  VIC staff will be laying out new trails in the area for hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing. Please do not go out in the area of the cut unless you have above average navigational skills!

Many thanks to Tim Curran of Seaway Timber Harvesting for his leadership in assuring that several of the skidder trails from the job were cleaned up to allow the VIC crew to do the finish work in order to add these trails to the growing ski trail system.  Seaway also contributed two significant loads of chip mulch to resurface several trails around the VIC property.
