Barnum Bog from the Canoe Launch at the Paul Smith's VIC

Adirondack Birding Center Director Brian McAllister led a beginner birder workshop on 29 July 2011. The walk was part of the Beginner Birder Workshops at the VIC. The walk began at 8:00 AM, when we met at the parking lot at the Paul Smith's College VIC. We started out on the Barnum Brook Trail, then cut over to the canoe launch on Barnum Bog. We then took the Boreal Life Trail to Barnum Pond and returned to the Heron Marsh overlook on the Barnum Brook Trail. It was a rainy, overcast day; and the birds were fairly quiet. The highlight was a nice view of the Great Blue Heron on Heron Marsh.

We identified a Red-Eyed Vireo and Common Raven at the parking lot.

On the Barnum Brook Trail, we heard the following birds:

American Goldfinch Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Red-breasted Nuthatch
